- Enter the OPP Home Page @ http://www.opp.si.edu/.
Click on the SD-410 or eMARC button.
- Go to the eMARC Login Page.
- If you are already registered as a user for the project under review, proceed to step 4.
- If you are a registered user of the system, but not for the project under review, notify
the Design Manager (if you are a reviewer) or A/E SD-410 Manager (if you are design team
member providing responses). After he or she adds your name to the Project User List,
proceed to step 4.
- If you are completely new to the system, you must establish a User Account. If you are
an SI employee or consultant reviewer, go to "Click Here for New SI User
Account". If you are a design team member, go to "Click Here for New A/E User
Account." Select a User ID and Password that is easy for you to remember and enter
the requested information in the corresponding fields. Notify the Design Manager or A/E
SD-410 Manager that you have registered as User of the eMARC system. After he or she adds
your name to the Project User List, you have access to that project for various functions.
Proceed to step 4.
- If you are the SI Design Manager or the appointed A/E SD-410 Manager, contact Omar
Elassal for instructions on project administration and management.
- On the eMARC Login Page, enter your user name, password, and click the appropriate user
category (SI User or A/E User). Click on the LOGIN button. A successful login in will
bring up the Welcome Page.
- On the Welcome Page, click on the appropriate project number.
- Depending on the project status (Open or Closed for various functions) and your user
category (SI User or A/E User), you will have various choices for viewing comments and
responses, entering comments or responses, and/or editing/deleting comments or responses.
Click on the appropriate button:
- Follow the on-line instructions to proceed from here. For additional tips, see
below.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTION S AND TIPS
General (all Users)
- Registration is required only one time; however, you can change or update your
password and personnel information at any time.
- There are several other options available for information exchange on the eMARC. You can
post or download files, such as text documents, CAD drawings, photographs, schedules,
spreadsheets, etc. in the File Library. You can send correspondence via e-mail, view
project information and user lists, etc. as part of the Administration function. Feel free
to explore and experiment.
Inserting New Comments or Editing/Deleting Comments (Reviewers only)
- Be as specific as possible in using the comment classification categories; i.e. try
to categorize each comment by the dominant discipline and then by drawing and/or
specification reference, etc. Of course, many comments are general or multi-disciplinary
and/or apply to several drawings or spec sections. As such, they will require responses
from several consultants on the A/E side.
- eMARC automatically assigns a unique tracking number to each comment as it is entered.
Avoid entering all your comments as a single document into a single comment field in the
system, as this will prevent system users from tracking individual comments, and will also
keep A/Es from being able to respond to individual comments.
- You may enter your comments directly into the database (please note that eMARC does not
have SpellCheck) or you may cut and paste comments from documents prepared in your
favorite word-processing software. To cut and paste, log onto eMARC through your web
browser and then run your Word Processor. Use the cut and paste icons in your toolbar.
- Once a comment has been entered and submitted, you can retrieve it for editing or
deleting by clicking the "Edit/Delete" button. You can only edit or delete your
own comments.
- Please note that the database is interactive and therefore always open to Smithsonian
users for viewing. Thus, other SI Users will be able to view your comments as they are
being input.
- Comments may be entered, deleted, and/or edited until the SD-410 deadline when database
is closed by the Design Manager. After the database is closed for comments by Reviewers,
it will become open to the A/E and consultants for entering their responses.
Inserting Responses or Editing/Deleting Responses (A/Es only)
- Respond to all comments that directly relate to your discipline. Coordinate
responses to multi-disciplinary comments with the A/E SD-410 Manager.
- You may enter your responses directly into the database (please note that eMARC does not
have SpellCheck) or you may cut and paste comments from documents prepared in your
favorite word-processing software. To cut and paste, log onto eMARC through your web
browser and then run your Word Processor. Use the cut and paste icons in your toolbar.
- Once a response has been entered and submitted, you can retrieve it for editing or
deleting by clicking the "Edit/Delete" button.
- Comments may be entered, deleted, and/or edited until the response deadline when
database is closed by the A/E SD-410 Manager.
- Please note that the database is interactive and therefore always open to Smithsonian
users for viewing. However, reviewers will be instructed to refrain from reading A/E
responses until the A/E SD-410 Manager advises the Design Managers that the response
process is complete.
Viewing Comments and Responses (All Users)
- By clicking on the "View" button, all users have access to the database for
viewing, sorting, and printing comments and responses.
- Enter sorting restrictions by selecting the desired parameters from menus in each
category. Select desired output sorting. You can choose between screen view and print
format.
FINAL REMARKS
Please note that all comments and responses must be entered electronically on this
project, unless you have made prior arrangements with your Design Manager or A/E SD-410
Manager.
We hope you find the eMARC system user-friendly and efficient. Feel free to e-mail
suggestions, problems, or other comments to your Design Manager or Omar Elassal at any
time. |
